Your Present Truth; A Sermon on God’s Work in Our Life and Our Obedience To Him (2 Peter 1:1-15)

2 Peter 1:1–15 “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.”

Note: What is God teaching you today?

Note: What is the truth that God has given you so that you can be a stronger believer in this world?

Note: These are direct questions, but there must give direct answers.

Note: You should have today in your life, something that you are working toward that will advance you spiritually in your quest for Christ likeness.

Well, I don’t have anything I am working on in my today.

Ephesians 5:6–16 “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”

Note: If you are not aware of the present truth that God has given you as a Christian, then you need to wake up.

Note: And God will give you light.

Like a child who says to their mother, “where is my toy?” The mother says, “where you left it”.

“It’s not there.”

The mother says, “Well, have you looked for it?”

To which the child replies, “No.”

“Well look for it.”

Note: This is the idea that God is presenting in this passage of Scripture.

Note: We need to read our Bible.

Note: We need to be sensitive to the Spirit of God.

Note: We need to be a people of prayer

Note: We need to seek the face of God each day.

Note: We need to allow the Lord to direct our pathway.

Note: We need to wake up spiritually, hear the voice of God. We need to grow and be established.
