Will Ye Weary My God? Isaiah 7:1-14; The Proof That God Can Always Be Trusted

Isaiah 7 “And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz (738 years before Christ) the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it. And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind. Then said the Lord unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou, and Shear-jashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field; And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; Fear not, neither be fainthearted For the two tails of these smoking firebrands, For the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah. Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, Have taken evil counsel against thee, saying, Let us go up against Judah, and vex it, And let us make a breach therein for us, And set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal: Thus saith the Lord God, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass. For the head of Syria is Damascus, And the head of Damascus is Rezin; And within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken, that it be not a people. And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, And the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established. Moreover the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying, Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; Ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord. And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.”

Note: Notice the expression in verse 13. “Will Ye weary my God?”

Question: Do you trust God in the depths of your soul?

Question: Are you willing to risk everything for Him?

Question: If you cannot come to that place, you will not be a successful servant of God.

  • Chapters 7-12 give us the experience of Ahaz not trusting God and then the results of that.
  • Chapters 36-39 – Haziakiah trusts God and then gives us the results.
  • Chapters 13-35 are lessons in trust.

Note: Assyria was on the march.

Note: These little nations in their pathway are in big trouble.

Note: So, the small nations plan to put together a coalition.

Note: If all the small nations come together, they may be strong enough to block this aggressive army.

Note: So Syria, with its capital in Damascus

Note: And the kingdom from the Northern Kingdom – Israel

Note: They decided to put together a coalition and demanded that Judah join them

Note: Ahaz is the king of Judah.

Note: It seems that Ahaz isn’t going to join their party

Note: So Israel and Syria are coming against Judah.

NoteAhaz is afraid. His heart sinks when He sees Israel and Syria join together.

Note: In verse two, when the confederate or conspiracy was told to the king of Judah, his heart was moved and the heart of the people as the trees of the woods were moved with the wind. Like the wind would sway the trees of the forest.

Note: So God tells Isaiah to go to King Ahaz and tell him to trust Him.

Verse 4 – Take Heed – Keep yourself from fear

Verse 4 – Don’t be fainthearted (Be strong and fearless)

Note: He says that this coalition isn’t going to last (Verse 7)

Note: Isaiah said, Ahaz, you can trust God.

Note: Go ahead and ask God for a Sign. He will show you He is the true protector of His people.

Note: But Ahaz wouldn’t ask God for a sign.

Note: You can have your choice of miracle too. Whether in the Sky or on the earth, all you have to do is ask (Verse 11)

Note: What does Ahaz say? He says, “I am not going to tempt God.”

Note: It sounds like Ahaz is pious, acting so spiritual when his heart is far from God.

NotePiety can be a fantastic coverup for unbelief

Note: When God says to PROVE HIM, He wants us to prove HImMalachi 3:10

Note: Ahaz wasn’t going to ask for a sign from God because He had already taken the silver and gold from the temple, went to the king of Assyria, and paid him to go and attack Syria.

2 Kings 16:7 “So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, I am thy servant and thy son: come up, and save me out of the hand of the king of Syria, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, which rise up against me.”

Note: Yet, the message of God is not to trust a heathen nation; trust Me; let Me establish your way.

Note: Isaiah said I understand why you would try my patience and weary me.

Note: Why would you try God’s patience and exhaust his long-suffering?

Note: You know what? I know you didn’t ask for it, but God will give you a sign after all.

Note: A virgin is going to conceive and bear a son.

Note: That son’s name will be called IMMANUEL.

Note: Before that boy is three years old, these two nations you’re so afraid of will be GONE.

This is the message before us.

So what can we learn from it?
