I Am So Loved (Sermon on John 3:16)

Note: Many in the world are seeking for love. They crave acceptance.

Note: Religion doesn’t provide that. They say to be accepted you have to do this or that. Follow a certain list of requirements.

Note: That’s how many felt in the days of Jesus. They felt in bondage and far from God.

Note: Maybe that’s you this morning.

In John 3, a man named Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night. He is a religious leader at the time.

Note: The message of Jesus contradicted the life and teaching of the religious of the day.

Note: Of course, that got Nicodemus’ attention.

Note: He came to Jesus with some pretty direct questions and conclusions.

Note: You must be from God because no one can do what you do, except God be with Him.

Note: Jesus told Nicodemus how He could be right with God. You must be born again.

Note: It’s one of the divine necessities recorded in the book of John.

Note: Nicodemus didn’t quite understand what Jesus was saying. Why do I need to be born a second time? Is this a physical birth.

Note: To which Jesus clarified you need to be born again spiritually.

Note: Then we find John 3:16. A powerful, all inclusive gospel message.

Note: The wonderful truth about the Gospel of John is it’s written for unbelievers. It’s a message from God to you. If you’re not a Christian.

Note: That ye may believe.

Note: John was written so that unbelievers would believe in Jesus.

NoteJohn 3:16 is a part of that message.John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.I. The Love of God

Note: God so loved.

Note: Why did God love us?

Note: Because God is love. It’s His nature to love.

Note: He loved us so much. It’s a love that travels further than passion and lust. To a sacrifice. A giving of oneself.

Note: The Greek word used for this type of love is agape. It’s God’s love.
