Sermon Series: The Lord is My Shepherd
Note: We looked at a plentiful provision, a personal possession. Today, we’re going to look at a precise place.
Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou artwith me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
We’re looking to God as our Shepherd.
He is the Great God. The All-Powerful God. He is the Self-Existing one.
Note: David found His significance and identity in the Shepherd.
Note: Jesus was all that David needed.
Note: As we transition into verse two, the focus changes from WHO the Shepherd is to WHAT He does in our life.
Note: The message of Psalm 23 is one of experience.
Note: This statement was more than a statement of faith; it became a statement of Fact.
Note: Paul understood this.
Note: Paul said, I know how to suffer need, and I know how to abound.
Philippians 4:11 “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
Note: Paul learned to find all He needed in the Lord as His Shepherd.
Note: This is where David finds Himself
Note: God’s WORK in His life was real and personal.
Note: The Christian’s life is about a Saviour working in our daily life.
Note: For David, It was more than hearing about God in a sermon, a Sunday School lesson, or a theology. David was aware of the Shepherd’s work personally in His life.
Note: David acknowledged God.
The Psalms have a way of making God’s Work personal. Anytime we read the Psalms, we should ask whether we have that personal relationship with God.
Note: For David, It was a living experience.
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
