A Sermon on Having A Troubled Heart (John 14:1-6)

John 14:1–6

Note: I want to set the scene of the events in John 14. Judas is Revealed. Jesus commands them to love each other. There is the prophecy of Peter’s denial in John 13:36-38.

Note: A lot is happening in the disciples’ lives to this point.

Note: It might even seem like their world was caving in or falling apart.

Note: Maybe they felt like they were losing control.

Note: To add to their distress, Jesus tells His disciples that He’s going away. And what made it even more challenging was that He was going to a Roman Cross.

The Lord would be captured, tried, and crucified in just a few chapters. Jesus knows the end is very near.

Note: Jesus is reassuring the disciples of Who HE IS: “You believe in GOD; believe also in me.

Note:   What’s the significance of this statement? Jesus Christ is fully God. It’s a declaration of His deity.

Note: There is a False Doctrine circulating in churches today called – kenosis. Kenosis teaches that Jesus Christ emptied Himself of His Deity when he came to earth. That He was not God, just a man. This is not what the Bible declares. Jesus came as a man, but He was also fully God. He is the God-Man. Notice what the Bible says in Philippians 2:7.

Note: Jesus tells his disciples, “Trust the One who knows tomorrow; trust the one who knows your past; the one who controls nature; and the universe.”

Note: Jesus said, “You believe in God (Trust in God); you can also TRUST in me!

Note: Because I am God.
